County Vacancies

Our county team is made up of wonderful volunteers who all work together to ensure the smooth running of Girlguiding Cambs West.

Below are a number of vacancies that are open to applications. If you feel you are interested in any of the roles below please email Rudy with a little information about yourself and why you'd like to take on the role.

GAP (Girl’s Advocate Panel) is a new region youth panel offering the opportunity for 16-25 year old members, with one or two representatives from each county, to have their voice heard at region level. The youth members will work alongside the assistant chief commissioner to play a key role in shaping future strategies, promoting Girlguiding and collaborating with the region team. 

The person(s) selected for this role will also sit on the Cambs West executive offering a young member perspective on our county planning and events. We have the opportunity to send two members to the Panel so these two members will share the role on the executive.

Applications are open for the month of April and will close on the 28th of April, where the County Commissioner will be in touch with those candidates to have a conversation about the role and its expectations. 

This role will work alongside Chloe, our additional needs adviser to ensure we are offering opportunities across the county to all demographics to the best of our abilities.

The role will also work along side the Growth and retention lead to help us with recruitment in under represented demographics in our county.

The role will support the executive team with planning and events to help us ensure we are being as inclusive as possible.

This role will look at recruitment of volunteers and girls in the county. They will support units and commissioners in growing Girlguiding in their areas where there is the most need. This could be in supporting with social media, or perhaps assisting at in person events like PRIDE or carnivals.

They will also be looking at the retention of our volunteers and investigating what we can do as a county to assist volunteers in their roles, and to ensure the role is beneficial to those volunteers too.

This role has the responsibility of ensuring Camps and Holidays are completed across the county safely and to the best of their ability. They will be responsible for advising people when they look to complete their overnight licenses, and supporting leaders when they looks to get new venues approved.

This role will work closely with the Events coordinator where appropriate. The role holder should have already held their overnight license for a number of years and be experienced in indoor and outdoor holidays. The role can be split if someone is experienced in camping outdoors but not residentials and vice versa.

This role will work closely with the County Commissoner to create content for our social media platforms. We currently have a social media presence on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, but would like to explore possibilities of LinkedIn and Bluesky.

The role will be to ensure the platforms are updated regularly, and we share our messaging and achievements with our communities. They should also be confident in talking to the media where appropriate to assist with making our presence visible in our communities.

This role will focus on providing outdoor adventure across our county. This does not need to be in event form, and can be in supporting units to provide experiences they would not normally get to experience. This person should ideally have knowledge of qualifications required by Girlguiding to run activities such as archery, climbing and water sports etc. The role holder should have enthusiasm for offering outdoor adventure for all sections and ideas on how to assist units, districts and divisions in completing this.

The role of a district commissioner is to support the leaders in your area. This role can be undertaken by any volunteer over the age of 18, (unit helper, leader, occasional helper etc) and the role could be shared amongst a team if that suits the district better.

This key responsibilities will be

  • Ensuring volunteers have the correct skills and training

  • Cascading information from county where appropriate

  • Ensuring their DBS and other safeguarding checks are completed regularly

  • Checking and approving REN's for holidays and events.

  • Collecting annual accounts paperwork from units

  • Welcome new volunteers to the area and placing them with units and mentors where appropriate

  • Supporting leaders through complaints and safeguarding concerns

  • Supporting the welfare of your District leadership team

  • Creating a cohesive team that works well together to support the transition between sections for girls and parents.

  • Reporting and escalating any issues to the division commissioner where appropriate.

We currently have vacancies for district commissioners in:

  • St.Neots - Priory and

    Kym Valley

  • Huntingdon - Godmanchester, Alconbury and Huntingdon

  • Peterborough North - Werrington

  • St.Ives - Slepe District

  • Peterborough North East - New Dogsthorpe and Car Dyke

This role sits on the county executive team and ensures the smooth running of the county whilst supporting the district commissioners in their teams and being an escalation point where required.

Their role will include:

  • Supporting district commissioners and creating a cohesive team

  • Escalation if volunteers have the correct skills and training

  • Cascading information from county where appropriate

  • Collating annual accounts reports from units and districts

  • Ensuring their DBS and other safeguarding checks are completed regularly

  • Checking and approving REN's for holidays and events where district commissioners are attending

  • Welcome new volunteers to the area and placing them with units and mentors where appropriate, where there are no district commissioners in place

  • Supporting district commissioners and leaders through complaints and safeguarding concerns

  • Supporting the welfare of your district leadership team

  • Reporting and escalating any issues to the county commissioner where appropriate.

We currently have vacancies for division commissioners in Peterborough North and Peterborough North East.

Within the county we have a few volunteers who take on the extra steps of training our other volunteers. As a trainer you have a specialist subject, such as First aid, or program and you train the county on this topic. More information on being a trainer can be found on the Girlguiding website
